Title: : Future Networking and communication Technologies : A Defence perspective

Abstract: Information Superiority will decide the outcome of future warfare. Availability of the relevant, correct and timely information in a rapidly changing battlefield scenario is imperative for effective command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems.
Proliferation of battlefield with numerous, unmanned sensors, artificially intelligent autonomous agents and unmanned aerial systems alongside soldiers, gathering volumes of data, will challenge the present technologies of both, Networking and widening of communication and cognitive bandwidth, to produce the desired information pre-eminence, which will dictate dominance of Defence forces over adversaries.

Title: Women in Engineering: A Global Perspective

Abstract: Women in Engineering” concerns have come to the forefront of many professional and academic discussions in recent years. This talk will discuss, with statistics, the representation of women at different levels in engineering and related fields. Taking a global perspective, the speaker will talk about regional and divisional differences and lessons from these. The talk will explore possible reasons for underrepresentation of women in engineering fields and possible solutions and strategies for levelling the playing field in the future.

Bio: Swati Meherishi is Executive Editor of Applied Sciences and Engineering at Springer. She has an extensive experience publishing engineering content across two continents. She holds degrees in Physics and Philosophy from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. Prior to Springer, Swati has managed key engineering textbook portfolios in both India and the United States. At Springer, Swati manages a growing portfolio of journals, including both Springer-owned and key academic society journals, such as Journal of the Indian Institute of Science, INAE Letters, Transportation in Developing Economies, Indian Geotechnical Journal, Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, and the Institution of Engineers (India) journals. She has successfully negotiated and launched new journal partnerships with several institutions of repute, including the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Indian Institute of Science, and the Indian Institute of Packaging.
Swati also publishes books across all domains of engineering and applied science. She has successfully launched several new book series, including prestigious partnership series with the Infosys Science Foundation, Indian Institute of Metals, and IIT Kanpur. Her primary aims at Springer are to grow Springer’s Engineering and Applied Sciences Portfolio in key interdisciplinary areas and to generate institutional and corporate partnerships. While her authors and editors hail from top institutes and corporate centers all around the globe, Swati’s focus remains to garner quality content from top engineering schools and corporate R&D groups across India in form of both books and journals. Swati is a member of the Materials Research Society (MRS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). In her free time she teaches technical communications courses to graduate students at the IITs.

Title: Emerging Telecom Technologies for hyper connected world

Abstract: The challenges of future telecommunication are low latency and ultra reliable communication network with Hyper connectivity and data security under limited resources. Hyper connectivity is a state, where not only human being, but machines, sensors, applications, devices and RFID tags, can communicate among each other to whatever extent each one desires. Its applications are expanding fast in the area of Internet, Mobile technology and Internet of Things (IoT). Hyper connectivity will simply change our entire system of living and thinking and will impact Industry, Commercial transactions, Employment, Medicine, Security, Transportation, Education and Entertainment. Telecom technologies have been the basic building blocks of this technological advancement. The key note will address some of the these technologies such as Massive MIMO, NOMA, Cognitive Radio, AMC, mm wave, M2M Communication and Game theory based Optimization techniques.

Bio: Dr. (Mrs.) Anjana Jain is Senior IEEE Member, Fellow IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecom Engineers), ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) and IEI (Institution of Engineers, India). At present she is Head and Professor of Electronics and Telecomm. Engineering in Shri G. S. Institute of Technology & Science, Indore, India. She has teaching and research experience of twenty seven years with more than 50 contributory research papers in National and International Journals and conferences. Anjana, has presented her research contribution in conferences held in India and Canada, USA, Poland, Malaysia and South Africa. She has also been selected to participate in research programmes at ICTP, Italy and awardee of NOKIA Award for best research paper. She has been a reviewer of National and International Journals published by Elsevier, IET, and Springer etc. In the institute, she was coordinator of many short term training programmes conducted for the benefit of faculty and students of technical institutes in and around Indore. Dr. Jain has wide experience of delivering expert lectures on physical layer designing, stochastic modeling, and application of Game theory in wireless communication. She conducts mentoring sessions on Outcome based Education in the Engineering Institute of the state. Presently four students are perusing Ph.D under her supervision in the field of wireless communication and cryptography. Her current areas of research are application of Game theory in communication and secure communication.

Title: Women Entrepreneurship–Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract: Women are breaking all barriers and excelling in various fields. Most of such examples challenge the traditional role of women in society. This talk is a curtain raiser where Ruby has explained the Opportunities and Challenges of Women Entrepreneurship. Her own long journey and struggle has helped her to present a realistic, practical view of the situation.

Bio: An Engineer and MBA by education, Er. Ruby S. Malhotra is a successful 1st generation Entrepreneur. She is at the helm of a successful and unconventional field of Engineering Testing and Calibration Laboratory. She is into Technical Consultancy, specialising in Quality and Testing. Apart from her professional life, she finds out constructive time for society, academic institutions and NGOs like Rotary International. Ruby was awarded with “COWE India Award 2015” by Shri Kalraj Mishra, Cabinet Minister MSME. She has also been covered in a Book—Women Change Makers for which she was honored by Smt. Sheila Dixit. She has been awarded as Best Rotarian in several Rotary Tenures. She has been recognized as Star Alumni by both her Colleges–UIT, Bhopal and BVIMR. Ruby believes and works for returning to society. She works for social causes through Rotary International (World’s largest NGO), of which she is a member since 2008. She was President of her Rotary Club for 2016-17. She is advising budding Entrepreneurs as a Mentor with National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). She is Advisor to IIT, Indore for Entrepreneurship and Advisor to IPS Academy, Indore. But the road does not end here-she is putting in her best and is trying to put their company-Kailtech on the international map. Dynamic, pleasing, focused and highly committed to her work, Ruby is reaching out for more and more avenues and even greater heights.

Prof. Basabi Chakraborty, Iwate Prefectural University, Japan

Title: Role of Efficient Similarity Measures for Time Series Data Mining

Abstract: Mining of time series data is needed in many areas of practical life ranging from medical and health related applications to biometric authentication, process industry, financial or economic predictions. The categorization of multivariate time series (MTS) data poses problem due to its dynamical nature and conventional machine learning algorithms for static data become unsuitable for time series classification or clustering. Similarity measures are essential for classification or clustering of MTS data. Various similarity measures have been developed so far, none of them works the best for all real world applications. The most popular one being dynamic time warping (DTW) though it has a high computational cost. In this lecture, I would like to present our proposal of some new similarity measures based on multidimensional delay vector representation of time series and several modifications of DTW for increased classification accuracy with lesser computational burden. The efficiency of the proposed similarity measures in comparison with other popular measures will be discussed by simulation experiments over benchmark datasets. I would also like to discuss applications of the new measures in different real life problems of pattern recognition.

Bio: Basabi Chakraborty received B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph. D degrees in RadioPhysics and Electronics from Calcutta University, India and worked in Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, India until 1990. From 1991 to 1993 she worked as a part time researcher in Advanced Intelligent Communication Systems Laboratory in Sendai, Japan. She received another Ph. D in Information Science from Tohoku University, Japan in 1996. From 1996 to 1998, she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University, Japan. In 1998 she joined as a faculty in Software and Information Science department of Iwate Prefectural University, Iwate, Japan. Currently she is serving as Professor and head of Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning laboratory.
Her main research interests are in the area of Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Soft Computing Techniques, Biometrics, Data Mining and Social Media Data Mining. She is a senior member of IEEE, member of ACM, Japanese Neural Network Society (JNNS), Japanese Society of Artificial Intelligence (JSAI), and Executive committee member of ISAJ (Indian Scientists Association in Japan). She served as the chair of IEEE JC WIE (Women in Engineering) during 2010-2011. Currently she is the founding chair of IEEE WIE Sendai section.
